Buyer's premium

The buyer's premium is a fee the winning bidder pays on top of the hammer price. It is charged on a sliding scale, roughly 26 percent on the first portion of the hammer price and lower at higher values. Because of it, the total cost of a work at auction is well above the hammer price, and published sale figures usually quote the price with premium included.
