Post-AI expressionism

Post-AI expressionism is an emerging painting approach in which an artist uses AI-generated images as a starting layer, then paints over them by hand with gestural, expressive marks. The method foregrounds human imperfection against machine smoothness. The term appeared in 2025 and 2026 art forecasts to describe a wider reaction against the polish of purely generated images.
