Relational aesthetics

Relational aesthetics is a term for art that takes human relations and their social context as its starting point, staging encounters between people as the work. The critic Nicolas Bourriaud coined it in his 1998 book of the same name, citing artists such as Rirkrit Tiravanija, whose pieces have included cooking and sharing meals with visitors.
