Restitution

Restitution is the return of cultural objects to the people, communities, or nations they were taken from, often under colonial rule or through wartime looting. It has become central to museum debate, driven by the 2018 Sarr-Savoy report commissioned by France, which recommended returning African works held in French collections without clear evidence of consent.
