Synthetic media

Synthetic media is content that is generated or substantially altered by artificial intelligence rather than captured from reality, including images, video, audio, and deepfakes. Its spread has made provenance a central concern, prompting standards such as C2PA Content Credentials, launched in 2021, which attach a tamper-evident record of how a file was made and edited.
